Eugene Gene William Schmitz

He was born December 12, 1928 in Miamisburg the son of Henry Lewis and Catherine Cecelia (Wagner) Schmitz.

Gene graduated from Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic School in 1943, enrolled in Chaminade High School for one year, and then transferred to Miamisburg High School where he graduated in 1947. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the 454th Construction Battalion, Pusan South Korea, as a sergeant in the Mess Hall. Gene retired on October 1st, 1987 from Monsanto Atomic Research Lab, Mound Lab, in Miamisburg. He worked on various projects and has been recognized for his efforts and achievements.

He is survived by his son, Darrell R. (Janice) Schmitz; grandchildren, Miranda (Shane) Westerman and Rebekka (James) Dec; great grandchildren, Damien Robin Westerman and Gordon Eugene Dec.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, who he married November 26, 1958, Betty J. (McCullough) Schmitz and sister, Delores J. Schmitz; brothers, Peter J. Schmitz, and Francis H. Schmitz.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6-8 PM on Friday, March 31, 2017 at GEBHART-SCHMIDT-PARRAMORE Funeral Home, Miamisburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Saturday at Our Lady of Good Hope Church, Miamisburg with Father David Vincent celebrant. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Good Hope Cemetery, Miamisburg.
