SHADE, Charles William, age 87, a long-time resident of Miamisburg, Ohio and later Moreland Hills, Ohio, passed away of natural causes on Friday, December 15, 2023 in Mayfield Village, Ohio. Born February 4, 1936 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Luther W. and Zella Mae (Tillison) Shade. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia Ann (Hecathorn) Shade; sons, Neal M. Shade and his wife Sharon, and Loren K. Shade and his wife Denise; grandchildren, Tara, Madeline, Michael, and Charles; brothers, Michael L. Shade and his wife Marilyn, and Jeffery P. Shade and his wife Nancy; sister, Susan A. (Shade) Hufford and her husband Gary.
Charles graduated from Miamisburg High School in 1954. He later attended the University of Cincinnati and spent the majority of his career working as a technician at the Miamisburg Monsanto Mound facility from where he retired in 1991. Retirement gave Charles the ability to concentrate on his real passions, photography and flying model airplanes. He and Patricia worked together to grow a thriving wedding and portrait photography business (Shade Photography) and were often found taking photos for the Miamisburg High School Band, high school senior photos, and many weddings in local area. He was a past President of the Focus Photo Club. His photography took him many places throughout the U.S. and overseas. His favorite locations were the mountains of Tennessee, Australia, Norway and Italy. He enjoyed hiking where he could capture the images in nature which he shared with friends and family and used for photo contests.
From a young age, Charles had a passion for aviation. An avid radio control pilot, he enjoyed flying model planes recreationally and competitively all around the nation. He was an active member and past officer of the Western Ohio Radio Kontrol Society R/C Club, Inc. (WORKS) flying club. If Charles was not flying, taking photos, or spending time in his darkroom, he was avidly reading. In addition to reading the latest journals about photography techniques, he also loved history and learning about the stories behind events. He loved sharing his passions and spending time with his four grandchildren.
