William J. Everett, our beloved Father, Grandfather and Husband of over 54 years passed away unexpectedly on October 14th at 10:35 am in the morning while having breakfast in his favorite spot at home, in Miami Florida.
William, known as Bill, was just 4 weeks shy of celebrating his 84th Birthday. Bill was born on November 16, 1936 in Havana, Cuba. His parents were Madeleine Dubreuil and William Joseph Everett. He grew up in Camaguey, Cuba and enjoyed many mischievous adventures on his Grandfather Jule’s boat, “Don Juan,” at the Havana Biltmore Club.
He came to the United States to study and attended Millersburg Military Institute in Millersburg, Kentucky. It was at Millersburg Institute that he held the record for longest distance discus throw in 1956. This record was held for over 40 years. Bill went on to College at the University of Florida in Gainesville where he was a football star. He returned to Miami to pursue his avid love of aviation and fascination with flight. It was in Miami that he met the love of his life and soulmate, Ursel Everett.
Bill and Ursel moved to the Virgin Islands to run the Seaplanes fleet, Antilles Airboats. After this he would go on to Pan American Airways. In the seventies he joined the Federal Aviation Administration in San Juan, Puerto and was transferred back to Miami with the FAA as a Airworthiness Safety Inspector until retirement.
He adored his two children, William and Kristina. A happy childhood was one of the best gifts he bestowed on them. Bill was the epitome of good character, honesty and integrity. His character was too honest for words and his warmth was too abundant to describe. He would light up the room wherever he went with his sense of humor and charisma. He had the unique capability to foster special relationships with everyone he knew, no matter how you met him or how long you knew him. He lived for his children and adored his wife. He will forever be in our hearts, and we are truly devastated and miss him deeply as our protector and guide.
He is survived by his wife, Ursel Everett, son William K. Everett (spouse Sandy Nandlal Everett, grandchildren Alexander Joseph Everett and Nicholas William Everett) daughter Kristina Everett Suengas (spouse Elsio Suengas - grandchildren Katia Isabella Suengas and Kylie Anabella Suengas)
Bill’s family will be scattering his ashes at sea in a private ceremony, as he would have wanted. Bill loved the ocean and we have many fond memories that were made in the Atlantic waters of Biscayne Bay.
God Speed, Opa, We love you
