The world has lost a true Renaissance woman. Proficient in the arts of music and painting, Suzanne pushed Emily and Ben to study music until it hurt – both them and Suzanne. Later in life, she took up drawing and painting, and many of her creations adorn the walls of our home. Suzanne was also an accomplished cook and baker, and when Emily and Ben left home to begin their own lives, each was skilled in the culinary arts. Suzanne was also a voracious reader, a trait she passed on to her children and for a time, her grandchildren.
As if her land based accomplishments were not enough, Suzanne loved to sail the waters of Biscayne Bay as a member of the Coconut Grove Sailing Club. Later, she became a dedicated member of Race Committee, and you dared not step out of line as long as she held the scoring sheets. We also enjoyed kayaking around the canals and islands in the bay. We did capsize once, when the weather took a turn for the worse and the bay waters became very rough. That was one of those experiences that’s more fun to talk about well after the fact.
Closer to home, I have lost the best friend I have ever had. Whenever I would tell someone how long we have been married, the response was always the same – that’s a long time, to which I would always reply – it’s not long enough. If my darling girl had been able to make it to June 24th this year, we would have marked 43 years. Not long enough.
The best advice Suzanne ever gave us was not to wait until retirement to do the things we wanted to do. Like travel. Due to her wise counsel, we were able to visit the countries of four continents and see much of the world. Right as always.
I will miss her in ways I cannot even put into words. Rest in peace my darling girl, until we meet again. - Love, Larry
