Robert “Bob” Rosen, a longtime resident of Miami, passed away on July 3rd at the age of 78. Always quick with a joke or an encouraging word, Bob led a full and happy life devoted to his family, his friends, and the Miami Hurricanes.
Originally from Franklin, New Jersey, Bob was born on February 29th, a date that underpinned his recurring joke that he was still a teenager. Known to cruise the streets of Franklin in his black Thunderbird, Bob could regularly be seen helping customers at Safer Trading Company, his father’s store on Main Street. He left Franklin to study business at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, before transferring to Miami Dade College and then to the University of Miami. There, he joined the ROTC and later served as a captain in the US Army. Bob also received his MBA from UM. He was very proud to attain membership in the Iron Arrow Honor Society, the highest attainable honor at the University of Miami and was also active in the Omicron Delta Kappa leadership group.
Bob went on to become a well-known expert in condominium management and founded his company, Rosen Management Service. He married Gloria Halber in 1969, and their two children were born and raised in Miami. He was an active member of Temple Zion Israelite Center and served on the Board of Directors and later attended Bet Shira. He was also very involved with United Synagogue of America attending many conferences as a member of the steering committee.
Bob was an avid traveler, and in his earlier years enjoyed visiting Israel several times. All of his friends and family knew of his great knack for getting hotel reservation upgrades and enjoyed fine dining. Bob loved finding ways to celebrate any occasion or holiday, and was a fixture at family events, no matter where in the world they might be taking place.
A devoted son, Bob cared for his mother in the last years of her life at his home. He also had a great number of very close friends with whom he kept in touch regularly until the time of his death. Bob’s friends and family members were the great beneficiaries of his passion to help others, as he was always willing to drop everything to help the people he cared for. In fact, his favorite activity in retirement was chauffeuring his grandchildren home from school.
Bob passed peacefully in his sleep after living several years with heart failure. He is survived by his children, Renee Lopez-Cantera and her husband Carlos, and Todd Rosen and his wife Taryn, all of Miami; his sister, Margery Kraus and husband Stephen of McLean, Virginia; and his brother Daniel Rosen and wife Denise of Kirkland, Washington. He also leaves four adoring granddaughters: Sabrina, Sofia, Addison, and Taylor.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 6 at 11 am at the Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels at Mount Nebo, 5900 SW 77 Avenue, Miami. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Bob’s memory be made to the Friends of the IDF (fidf.org)
“If things were to end, please remember that I’m happy,” Bob said in a video he made shortly before his death. “I had a wonderful life. I enjoyed my home so much, and it’s great. Every day has been an additional blessing.”
