It is with great sadness that the family of Robert Lee Newman of Boynton Beach, Florida announce his passing at the age of eighty five. Robert was married to Shirley Kettleman Newman who passed away November 2017. They were happily married for 60 years. He will be sadly missed by sons Scott (Miriam), of Deland, Florida; James (Nora), of Sacramento, California; and Morris Newman (Courtney), of Plantation, Florida. Robert will be sadly missed by grandchildren Matthew, (Kroopa Desai), Rachel, Joshua (Jessica), Desiree, Darian, Gavin, Teagan and great grandchildren Jaidyn, Julianne and Joshua Jr.
Robert was born on July 18, 1933 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to David and Fannie Newman. He graduated from Miami Senior High in 1953 and then enlisted in the United States Army. He served during the Korean War and received three medals: National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Korean service Medal. He then attended the University of Miami on a music scholarship for Cello, where he received his Bachelor of Business degree. He later attended Barry College where he earned his Master’s degree in Social Work.
Shirley Kettleman and Robert Newman married in 1958 in Miami Beach. After graduating college, Robert worked as a Stock Broker for 14 years and then as a Social Worker for 18 years. His hobbies included airplane, rocket and ship model building, stamp and coin collecting, playing his Cello and collecting and selling depression era glass. In retirement, he was an avid member of the South Florida Depression Glass Club. A funeral is scheduled for 11:00 am on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapel, 5900 SW 77th Avenue, Miami, Florida.
