David was an authentic scout leader all the time.
He lives always under the scout oath. 

 About a month ago, I received the bad news of the die of my scout friend David Dreibelbis . I was  living overseas when it happens.
I will miss him, because he was a great human being  and a great  Scout Master.

I have randomly stumbled upon this sad news regarding the passing of Mr. D.

I was one of his scouts when he was the Scout Master of Troop 92 back in the late 90s. His teachings and over all personality of how he carried himself is something I still think of from time to time when I remember the awesome camping trips he took our troop to. Camp Seminole & summer camps in Lone Oak are some of the best memories I have from my time in the Boy Scouts.

For years I had wondered how he was doing and if he was in any way still with the scouts. Looking through pictures and in memoriam video, I see he was a lifer with the scouts. I hope many others saw and learned from Mr. D as I did. Condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

“Happy times. I believe this probably was 63 or 64. Most likely 63. That would make me 13 ( I was wearing my Kedds. I got my mustache at 19. This was pre-Tessa), Kitty 15 (She had just met Fernando or was about to meet him), Mary 17 (About to go to NY to College Mt. St. Vincent) and Jim 19 He was home before going to Trujillo. 
Manuco had been operated about 2 or 3 years before and was just off the braces. We can see his Canadian crutch behind my right shoulder.“

Troop 512 of Springfield, PA sends its deepest sympathies to the entire Dreibelbis family. He made contributions to our Troop beyond measure. Not only physical ones like beautiful Patrol flags made of wood, but also sharing his wisdom and experiences with us all.  

I have known David for 32 years. Eventually he joined Troop 870. David recruited me in 1990 during a Spring Roundup  as a Den Leader of Pack 870. David became eventually Scoutmaster of the Troop. He was a great friend and mentor. The Moreno family and Troop 870 will sorely miss him. He's gone back to Gilwell. Rest in peace David. My condolences  to his family. I was blessed to be able to say that I had David in my life. He shared his life, his 3 beautiful children and his love and completed my being. Sometimes, if you are lucky, that one special person enters your life and you may not know it at the time but, years later, you truly realize how they made the difference in your life...to make it full...happy and worthwhile.  You taught me so much that I am so grateful for and you showed me your smile and the excitement and happiness that you received from the simplest pleasures like planning a gateway for a camporee or helping JP make a volcano for a school project that exploded all over the kitchen. Garbage pail turkeys and camping and Boy Scouts and so so much more...more then I can ever list here.  You showed me something that is so lacking in so many people and that is caring...and giving of themselves...every person you were in contact with was special and you gave all of yourself...always.  The world is a better place because of the short time that you had here....David Dreibelbis...I love you and always will love you and will never stop loving you. 

Our deepest condolences to the family.  Mr. D was a wonderful mentor who taught both my children and countless others many life lessons.  He will be very missed.  This is a picture of some of the scouts of pack 850 and troop 599 as we paid our respects and said farewell to Mr. D.

Goodbye brother-in-law! Goodby Uncle David. You were some Renaissance Man! Interesting, perplexing, misunderstood,  humane, lover of nature, accomplished chef, admirer of the beauty inherent in the minute details of God’s creations. 
It was enlightening knowing you. You will be sorely missed.

A LIFE OF LEGACY!   A life which will never be forgotten.  Your legacy has and will continue  to impact hundreds of boys across numerous generations.   The knowledge you imparted will be passed down, from today's young scout to their sons or daughters.

 The Scouting program is proven to turn young boys into reputable men of character and honor.   

  If  it was not for volunteers who selflessly impart their time,  wisdom and knowledge the program would not exist.  These acts not only impact young men but also the adults surrounding them.

We are and always will be indebted to your friendship and never ending dedication to both the program and the boys.

I feel blessed to have known and shared campfires with you.  GOD speed my friend,  your legacy will never be forgotten!   Until we meet again.



David, no more flights on Braniff, no more cruises on Royal Caribbean, now there is a smooth trip carried by angeles to reunite with poppie, mami Susana, Abue, Mary , Mañuquito and all those who are waiting for us.I wish You peace and happiness a Big hug and a Big temporary Kiss until we all meet again. Mr. D, you were a mentor and role model to so many children through Scouting including both of my sons. I knew you for several years and always though of you as a kind and gentle person. Soft spoken yet when you would talk to the kids and parents we would always listened carefully because you were a wealth of knowledge. You were a true friend to Scouting and to the many, many children and volunteer adults that make up the organization. The world is hurting with your passing because people like you should live forever. Mr. D Rest In Peace , your legacy will continue through the beautiful family you created and the many children’s lives you impacted in such a positive way.


Words are hard to express the many feelings we have saying goodbye for now to our beloved David, brother, father, grandfather and uncle. While we are all very sad at his untimely and difficult departure at the hands of this pernicious virus, I’d prefer to focus on the fact that he has left us with many happy shared memories and a legacy of service that has touched our lives and many others. The memories for us in the family cover many, many experiences, family time at home, across the US over the years, as well as interesting adventures across the US and abroad, always focused on looking forward and working to help make every experience successful. Beyond family, David was dedicated to service, in the working world as a knowledgeable and dedicated employee in the travel industry, spanning work with many international airlines, travel agencies, and most recently the cruise industry (with Royal Caribbean). Also and most notable, including family and well beyond, David will be remembered and appreciated for his tireless and expert dedication to the Boy Scouts of America, not focusing primarily on the organization, as on the countless boys he has helped develop skills and character, primarily in Florida and Pennsylvania, as well as the many adult leaders he has helped to develop their service capacity with his vast knowledge and practical skills. The many lives he has touched through the years, in the family, in the workplace, and in scouting, will ensure that David’s passing is not final, as his memory and legacy will endure. Rest in Peace, David, but be assured that we will remember and continue to make good use of all you have left us.

Mr. D was a great Scouter mentoring many youth and adults during his journey.  While Mr. D and I did not always agree on things I count myself lucky to have been his friend.  RIP sir and our prayers go out to your family.  You will be missed but never forgotten.

Mr. D, so happy that we were graced by your wisdom and stories.  Such an awesome person to have known for the past few years. Left a great legacy in our Scouting family.  You will be missed by us and many. Our heart goes out to the family in such time of sorrow.

I knew Mr. for several years.  He was heavily involved in Pack 850 when my son joined the Scouting program.  Mr. D was an extraordinary giver.  He came to every event, and every meeting to mentor the young Scouts and adult leaders alike.  He did this even though he did not have a child or grandchild of his own participating in our Pack.

He was a walking encyclopedia.  I remember one bus ride to Northern Florida, perhaps 7 hours long.  As we drove down the expressway, Mr. D would talk about everything from the Palmetto, Cypress, Pine, and Oak Trees, to the history of towns we would pass through like Saint Augustine.  He would tell stories of Henry Flagler and his Florida East Coast Railway.  He lead us in so many Scout songs and taught interested Scouts and parents knots along the way.  He did all this from memory with the ease of a Sunday stroll.

Thank you for everything Mr. D!  I know I will always fall short, but I will aim to be as giving and knowledgeable as you.  Till we meet again.
