An industrious, complex, extraordinary man, respected by his colleagues, deeply loved and honored by his family. Mel's accomplishments will fill reams. He was adored by his students. Mel continually challenged them, asking, again and again,for more.
I grew to revere Mel as I learned of his accomplishments and his tenacity and consider myself very fortunate to have been in his orbit.
His love of mediation and passion for designing alternative design systems will place him solidly in the history books. 
May his family bask in his love and admiration of them.

So sad to see the passing of one of the finest people I've ever known. Mel made everyone he knew feel important. Unless firmly prodded he rarely spoke of his remarkable life and achievements preferring to focus on what he could do for others.  And what he did was monumental.  Mel would continuously look for ways to enhance the lives of anyone his orbit and certainly helped pave the way for hundreds of people to follow roads not previously available.  Mel taught me and placed me in rewarding programs.  We'd see each other for business related activities and have lunch about twice a year at a mediocre restaurant, but convenient for me to get to.  Unlike many people who structure their conversations to leave you with the image they wish to project, Mel was always deeply candid and honest about all things. I'll miss him in so many ways. There's no one who can say Hi bubbola, what's new with you, and really want to hear the answer.  We've lost the best of us.

Mel will be greatly missed. Elliott and I enjoyed his company and kind character very much. We were so sad to learn of his death. We send our prayers for strength to Susan and the rest of the family and friends as they deal with this very painful loss.

Mel was very special to me both personally and professionally.  We spent many, many hours together on committees working to develop and improve the mediation program in Florida and his contributions are too numerous to describe.  But even more importantly, Mel was a dear and good friend who always was willing to lend an ear or give a hug.  We shared many, many laughs and quite a few tears over the years.  I will miss him greatly and feel so very grateful to have known him.  My sincere condolences to Susan and the extended Rubin family.  With love,

Mel was one of a kind and one of the kindest and smartest persons I ever met. His mediator skills were unmatched. Because of his gentle demeanor you never knew he was always "out negotiating" you. What a gigantic loss to the ADR local, state and national community. I was proud to call Mel my mediation training partner for 18 years.

We will absolutely miss Mel.

I consider myself to be one of the lucky ones because I met and considered Mel to be one of my friends as well as a colleague.  Time spent with Mel was always time well spent.  He took an interest in what others were doing and only reluctantly shared his own experiences.  I put to good use the lessons he thought me not only about being a mediator but also about being a person that people felt comfortable being with.  He will be dearly missed and often in my thoughts.  Condolences to the entire family.

Mel was one of the finest people i ever met in the Mediation profession. His easy style , broad smile and wonderful sense of life was memorable and i always looked forward to seeing him at meetings. i will miss him .
