Maria A. Gonzalez

Early Monday morning, Maria de los Angeles Gonzalez Rodriguez passed away peacefully in the presence of her family and our Lord. Maria was born in Havana, Cuba on March 9, 1931, the only child of Pura & Jose Rodriguez. A beautiful girl, Maria excelled in her studies, and in 1949, married Eugenio Gonzalez, a handsome entrepreneur from Camaguey. In 1959, Maria fled Cuba to Miami with their two children to await Eugenio's release from prison for political dissidence. Several years later, the family were reunited and remained in Miami, building a successful hardware business. Strong and courageous, Maria will be remembered for her wit and devotion to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved "Abuela", Basilisa Garcia, and Eugenio. She is survived by her daughter, Maria Lopez and husband, Oscar, of Miami and her son, Jose and wife, Caryl, of Fort Worth, TX. 3 granddaughters, Sandra (Oswaldo) Sosa, Cyanne Senra and Krystelle (Jonathan) Lay, all of Miami. 1 grandson, Evan Sherman of Austin, TX. 5 great grandchildren, Ryan, Alec and Kaelyn Sosa and Cataryna and Carlito Rodriguez. Cousin Teresita Curras of Puerto Rico, sister-in-law Gloria Gonzalez and niece Cely Gonzalez. A funeral mass will be held for Maria, on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church situated at 12125 SW 107 Avenue, Miami.
