She was born in Cuba in 1954 to Serafin Armando Guerreiro and Maria Josefina Gerpe Allo and spent her life as a citizen of the world, traveling and working in many countries.
Maria Elena Guerreiro was a loving daughter, a great sister, an amazing mother, and a best friend to many of us. The Latin Music Industry has lost a genius of the most passionate and savvy individuals that worked in the industry throughout the past 40 years.
Meg, as many of us called her, became an iconic symbol for many artists that conquered the Latin Music Market in the United States and Puerto Rico. She had a keen eye for talent and a gift for recognizing hit records. Even when presidents of key record companies were not interested in promoting an upcoming artist or an established one, Meg would become their angel and knight in shining armor to ensure that the artist glowed.
During her professional career, she wore many hats. She started as a secretary then quickly became the best publicist, promotion director, personal image adviser, manager, the first woman vice president of strategic marketing at Sony Discos - during the dream team era - also known as consigliere to the CEO and Chairman and much more.
Regardless of what other movers and shakers of the industry believed, she would always find a way for real talent to shine. From Luis Miguel, Jose Luis Rodriguez, Jose Feliciano, Celia Cruz, Alejandro Sanz, Gloria Estefan, Marc Anthony, Alejandro Fernandez to many more. Dozens of artists were blessed by the magic touch that Meg possessed at some point in their careers. She loved being a mentor and leader to so many for so long.
Maria Elena Guerreiro will always remain known as an emblematic figure of detailed perfection with a loving heart. She will be sorely missed.
Her only son, Jorge, was always her biggest fan.
On the day of her passing, he shared with the world this beautiful message in her honor:
"Rest in Paradise my beautiful & precious mom. I love you so much. More than you could ever imagine. You have touched, influenced & helped so many people while you were in this world. Thank you for everything you did for me. For all the things you taught me. For all the love, confidence & belief you instilled in me. For all the time you gave me, no matter how busy you were. I always loved you for that. You made me believe & let me know I could do anything because anything is possible in God. I can't stop thinking of you & I miss you so much, but I know you are with the Lord now in the heavens where you belong. You were always an angel to me. The perfect mother & best friend that anyone could have a truly good person with a big heart & an infectious beautiful energy that shined wherever you were no matter who was there! An amazing life you lived from coming to the United States from Cuba as a little girl with your family in search of freedom to all of the accomplishment's you achieved in your career that are impressive & endless an icon in the music industry you left your mark & the real ones know! Your energy & frequency is on another level. A pure heart filled with faith and strength. You are the bravest, toughest person I've ever known! How you handle this battle was a true example of bravery! Rest easy. I will be fine, mommy, with everything you taught me. I know you are good because Jesus never left your side! Heaven just got a little brighter! I love you, mom!"
