On May 7, 2013, my mother Margarita Merderos passed away at the age of 89. She loved and cared for her family, her friends and her community. She was loved and cared for by them in turn. She was born in Havana, Cuba. She spent her youth there working for Revlon as an extremely well-reputed skin care specialist, and received several awards and formal acknowledgements. After she came to the United States, her life became about her family. Her children and grandchildren brought her tremendous joy. Even in her later years, getting into the exclusive ad hoc night clubs her grandsons Jake and Alex would set up caused her tremendous excitement. She delighted in dancing with them to House Music as the laser lights her grandchildren had rigged went off around them. She leaves behind her daughter Blanca, her grandsons Alex and Jake, her son-in-law Omar, her personal caretaker Obdulia and the many friends and family who filled her rich life. She was a loving, respectful, faithful, and dignified woman. She lived as such. She will be missed.
Mommy, we love you and miss you with all our hearts!
