Lourdes Catalina Curbelo, age 89, of Miami, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, Lourdes brought the warmth, heart, and spirit of her homeland with her wherever she went.
A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Lourdes was the vibrant heart of her family. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy through her five children, eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild—all of whom carry her strength, warmth, and joy with them.
Lourdes was known for her zest for life. She loved to travel and embraced every opportunity to explore the world. Whether she was dancing at a family party, sharing stories, or simply laughing with loved ones, her energy was infectious and her joy unforgettable. She was truly the life of the party and had a special way of lighting up every room she entered.
An extraordinary cook, Lourdes was famous for her frijoles negros—a dish that became a symbol of comfort and home for generations of family and friends. But beyond her culinary talents, Lourdes had a poetic soul. She was a gifted writer who poured her heart into her poetry, capturing life’s beauty, struggles, and joys with honesty and grace.
Lourdes was deeply loved and will be dearly missed, but her spirit will continue to live on in the stories, recipes, poems, and memories she leaves behind.
An entombment service to honor and celebrate Lourdes’s life will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Caballero Rivero Dade South, located at 14200 SW 117th Ave, Miami, FL 33186.
May her memory be eternal, and may we all carry a little of Lourdes’s joy and passion with us each day.
