My amigo, Juanito and I go way back to when we started with UCL in 1970. Back then we were the only Hispanic and Cuban with the company. Juan started as a unit manager and me as an agent. He later  became a manager and rose to the top in sales to become Numbero Uno and he referred to me as Numbero Uno and a half.  When we became CLU’s the joke was “Cuban Life Underwriter” and “Chicano Life Underwriter”!  Juan’s success story in the insurance business is an inspiration to all. We shared lots of great memories over the years and he will forever be missed. My condolences to Ivette, John, Ivette Marie and his family. 

The legacy of Juan Calles is one of respect, leadership and always concern for those who worked with him and for him.  In his presence you were embraced as family and friend, and his passion for excellence, ethics, and rectitude in our business and private lives impacts  those touched by his wisdom.  Our thoughts are with the entire family at this time.

Dear Calles Family,
My sincere condolences.  I met Juan in 2009 on an Unifi / Ameritas Leaders Club trip and while going through vetting the name badges, I came across "Numero Uno".   I thought to myself, is this a mistake?   But alas, it was spot on and when I met this most joyful man, I immediately agreed his nickname was most fitting.   He was number one in so many ways but most of all his unique way of making you feel welcomed.   You see, I was simply "staff" on these most prestigious programs; however, Juan made all of us feel special and appreciated.   He was an extra ordinary human being.  He adored his wife, he deeply loved his children, and he sincerely cared about his clients and  all that he came in contact with over the years.   Rest in peace Numero Uno and God Bless the Calles Family and may everyone feel peace at heart Juan is in heaven enjoying the good life once more.  In sincere sympathy,  Wendy Lanning Kammer

I had the pleasure of working with Juan for over 15 years with Union Central Life/Ameritas, and was always impressed with the great care he took of his clients. He was such a gentleman and always so kind. His integrity and passion for his clients' needs as well as the industry are second to none. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Calles family and those who worked closely with him. Juan was deeply admired and respected, and will be missed. 
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let your perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.

My family and I send our sincerest condolences.  Juan was a great man and a good friend of Jose Milton, our family patriarch who passed away over 9 years ago.  I remember going out to dinner with them and conversations about Cuba and business they enjoyed. May Juan rest in peace and meet up with old friends in Heaven. 🙏🏻

Numero Uno was one of the kindest men I have ever met.  Many years ago our family rode the shuttle bus from our leaders club venue back to the airport with Mr. and Mrs.  Calles.  My daughter sat next to Mr. Calles and they talked the entire time.  My daughter told Mr. Calles about her first car (an old Mercedes), and Mr. Calles promised her a surprise in the mail.  A few days later a package arrived and in it was a set of Bentley valve stem covers and a lovely note telling my daughter that he believed her to be very special, and to always strive for greatness.   What a wonderful gesture.  My daughter still has that gift.  May God bless the Calles family.
