Jose is survived by mother Aida Perez; brother Ulises Manzano and brother Enrique Suarez; best friend Marisol Rivera and girlfriend Maria Casanova.
Jose was preceded in death by father Manuel Perez.

"What can I say about Joe Perez? He was my best friend, brother, runnin’ pardner, mentor, the “Cuban” father figure I never had and the most mischievous class clown all rolled into one. The most reliable compass that pointed me in the right direction of fast times, kind people, the tastiest food, the greatest art and the funkiest music. It is said that before you can love anyone you have to love yourself. Well, if you knew Joe, then you know, nobody was more in love with Joe, than Joe! Though, when I was around him, he never failed to make me feel that he loved me more than himself. Rest In Peace, love and light my brother. If we can’t live, laugh and prosper in this life, I am hopeful we will meet again and carry on in the next one."
