Born in Havana, Cuba, José Ramón came to the United States as a young man. He studied engineering at Pennsylvania State University and later earned a doctorate from Harvard. For more than 50 years he taught International Business at several universities in the U. S. and abroad, making lasting connections across the world.
He lived a full life, enjoyed his work and traveling the world with family and friends, always searching for the best food in all places he visited. As all who met him know, he loved bringing people together and was always ready to help. He touched many lives and leaves a big empty space in our hearts.
His wife, Marta, his children and their spouses, José Ramón III and Lynn Connolly, Cristina de la Torre and Renzo Benavides, his grandchildren Isabel and Javier de la Torre, Lucas and Leandro Benavides, his brothers Gastón de la Torre and Jeanette, and Gustavo F. Araoz and Susana, many nieces and nephews, and dear friends will miss him terribly.
