Howard Norman Fisher November 24, 1932 – September 3, 2022, Miami, Florida – Howard raised a sugar-free ginger ale toast to the love of his life, his beloved Nashville-born wife of 64 years, Roberta Carr Fisher, from his hospital bed on August 31st with most of his immediate family in attendance. He felt incredibly blessed and relished the makeshift celebration that ensued. And this is how we will remember this giant of a man who moved through life quietly and was grateful for the simple pleasures that life had to offer. From capturing a beautiful picture on film to listening to his eclectic collection of music or watching a classic B&W film, he was a compassionate man motivated and moved by the humanities and well-versed with world history. And as much as he loved a great book, and the enlightening book club discussions that he and Roberta engaged in with friends, he loved spreading his enthusiasm for all that he was engaged in with his family, especially his grandchildren, even more so.
Howard lived a full life, both privately and in business. He made his way to Miami in 1935 via Chicago and his connection to this emerging city grew deep and strong. Howard was proud of his city and taught his children to cherish their native town. In business, Howard was an important and trailblazing figure in the wallcovering distribution and manufacturing business, respected by all, and awarded the industry’s highest accolades during his more than 60-year career. He built several businesses that spanned a number of continents. Painted walls were never an option for his family's interior finishes.
Despite everything he accomplished in his lifetime, Howard's crowning achievement was the family he and Roberta built. He was an involved, supporting and loving father to his daughter Berett and her husband Eric Trachtenberg, his son Randall and his wife Robyn Fisher, and his son David Fisher. Howard held immense love and deep friendships with his grandchildren, including Ben Trachtenberg, Evan and his wife Hannah Fisher, Ally Fisher, and Kara Fisher. Rarely a day passed without reaching out to one of them with a quip, a quote, or a dose of lovingkindness. Nothing gave Howard more pleasure than to be gathered around his dining room table with his family, great food, spirited discussion, and a lot of “jokey- jokey”. Many family friends, young and old alike, remarked how connected and special he made them feel and his family knows just how much he valued each and every interaction he had with them. This was especially true for his children's and grandchildren’s close and longtime friends. Howard has left a great void that can only be filled by the precious memories we each hold dear and near to our hearts. Funeral services will be held at Mount Nebo/Kendall Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, September 6 at noon.
