Dear Irene and family: I think about Jerry almost every day. A terrible loss for all of us. He was one of the kindest and most decent people I have ever known, and, of course, the finest Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice in the state's history. One day at the Metro Justice Building in the middle 70s, as a very young lawyer, I watched Jerry Kogan try a murder case as  defense counsel.  Within a few minutes, u knew that this gentleman was indeed special.  Truly special in every way.  He influenced so many of us young trial lawyer wanna bees.  His voice was magical. His words eloquent.   His ultimate appointment to the Florida Supreme Court was so deserved.  What a role model for us all.  Truly a great man. Rest in peace great one.


I  remember  being  involved  in  a car chase with  Kogan  driving  at speeds of hundred MPH  the individual we were chasing  claimed he was "The Messiah" .
  A little  reminder that back in the day in Brooklyn  he was dating my sister.  Small world isn't it. Rest in peace my friend

I knew Gerald Kogan in a professional capacity. The first word that comes to mind is integrity, the next is respect. He has left his mark.

Our hearts are aching with the loss of a great man. Myrna and I adored Jerry and we send our deepest condolences to Irene and the entire Kogan family. Our thoughts and love are with you.

My deepest condolences go out to the family of Gerald Kogan.  He lived a full and wonderful life.

Jerry and I worked together on the loading dock at the original Burdine's. I didn't remember this until we re-met at one of the Typhoon monthly lunches and Jerry reminded me. I didn't know Jerry very well after school but when I came to know him better at these lunches and talked at length with him I realized what kind of really first class person he was. He left a great mark on those he knew and the world through his integrity and decency. I'm so very sorry we lost him.

I have been a close friend of Gerald Kogan  from the time that he attended Miami Beach Senior  High  School until the time that he left us . Jerry was a dedicated Florida Chief Supreme Court Justice as well as a caring husband , father , and grandfather . He will be missed by all those who love and respect him for his total dedication to just causes and his undying commitment to relentlessly favor those in need of help . Throughout the years , Jerry has inspired me , and others to understand the meaning of helping others  to reach a level of hope in their quest to be heard in their every day pursuit of happiness in a world of turmoil  .
