Frederic J. Wasserman
October 18, 1934 - January 16, 2024
Dr. Frederic J. Wasserman, 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Weston, Florida, on January 16, 2024. Fred devoted his life to family, friends, and community. His lifelong friendships began when he moved as a child from Sharon, Massachusetts, to Miami, Florida. He attended Miami Senior High School and then the University of Florida where he was a proud member of Pi Lambda Phi fraternity.
Fred was the first person in his family to graduate college, and he became a prominent dentist in Miami’s Westchester neighborhood after serving honorably as a Captain in the Army.
Fred was an instrumental part of many organizations that benefited the community. He was the founding president of Pop Warner Football in Miami-Dade County. He, along with Nick Bonticconti, and his fraternity brother commissioner, Harvey Ruvin, convinced the other county commissioners to approve and create Coral Reef Park despite the fierce objections from homeowners in the area. Today that park thrives and is used by many. Fred was the president of the Miami Ski Club which, at the time, was the largest snow ski club in the country. Fred then started the Florida Ski Counsel where he was its founding president.
Fred is predeceased by his loving daughter, Laura Wasserman. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn J Wasserman, his sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Lisa Wasserman and Michael and Kim Wasserman; his grandchildren, whom he adopted and raised as his own, Nick and Krystal; his grandchildren, David, Sarah, Joshua, Jacob, Jordan, Amanda—and his great grandchildren, Jonathan, Katherine, Daniel, Benjamin, and Matthew.
A funeral service for Frederic will be held Friday, January 19, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels at Mount Nebo (Kendall), 5900 SW 77th Ave, Miami, FL 33143.
