Elaine Cohen of Coconut Grove, passed away on Tuesday, 8/28/18. She spent intermittent seasonal stops in Charleston SC, Gettysburg PA, and Stockton CA, Born in Rochester NY, daughter of Florence and Arthur “Dusty” Granite.
She moved to Miami in 1951 where she married her loving husband of 33 years Seymour (Cy) Cohen who predeceased her in 1985. She recently lost her beloved and dearest friend Karl Mindlin and her sister Janice Baker.
She is survived by Step brother James Granite. Mother of Rick (Joan) Cohen, Allison Lynn Cohen, Grandmother of Michael Cohen and Susan Cohen.
Elaine was a unique and complex woman who loved her family and friends. She was a painter, a traveler, avid sports fan, loved to play Maj with the girls and was a whirlwind with a sponge, keeping the cleanest counters and the tidiest of pantry’s and closets.
She was a great cook, learning regional cuisine as the family traveled the eastern seaboard each summer following the Tomato crops.
Elaine was remarkably strong and stoic at the end, much the same as she had lived her life. Always a beautiful proper lady. She said recently she had a great run, and was ready to call it a day…… She will be missed.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, Sept 2, 2018 at 11am at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels Kendall with burial to follow in Mount Nebo Kendall Memorial Gardens.
