HOFFMAN, EDWARD (ED), 78, of Pembroke Pines, Florida, succumbed to kidney cancer, with his beloved family at his side. Passionate, strong-minded, loving, courageous and optimistic, he bravely fought his disease. Born in 1935, at 6 months old, his family moved to from Washington D.C. to Coral Gables, Florida. Through the years, the family lived in several historic landmark areas of the city. Ed graduated from Staunton Military Academy in Virginia. He was Miami Beach High prom date to the love of his life, Marilyn Mann, and they married in 1957. In 1960 the family moved to Hollywood, Florida and was active in many civic organizations. Whether he was working on the family sod, cattle or Caladium farms in Central Florida, Ford Motor Tractor Company in Miami, Oklahoma cattle ranches while in the business of cattle feeding, as an accountant for Miami Law Review, volunteering for swim meets operating the timing equipment, or as Santa for the children in Lake Placid Florida, he gave his all. Ed earned his Business Degree from the University of Miami in 1976 after 7 years of night school. For many years Ed served on the Executive Board of the Jewish Community Center, (now known as the David Posnack JCC)in the capacity of Treasurer. For 20 years, Ed was a Real Estate Broker and property manager with Coldwell Banker. Until 2013, Ed was employed at his daughter and son-in-law's law firm working side by side with his daughter Cathy to run the firm. He loved the challenge of helping manage a business and provided invaluable insight to all of his professional involvements. Most recently Ed began a personal crusade to raise awareness for the medical profession to be more caring and comforting to patients. In his blog, "Ed Talks", he discussed these issues and urged people to proactively work to create necessary changes. Though his medical problems were surfacing in 2013, he bravely explored Paris and Provence with the extended family. His humor, recollections and stories of Coral Gables/Miami history, strong opinions and amusing tales of his life experiences are among the fond memories he leaves behind. He was a loving husband, a committed father, consummate and involved grandfather. As a younger brother to Vivian, Larry and Bob, an uncle to his many nieces and nephews, he was unrelenting in his caring and nurturing of his relationships. He was cherished by his relatives and extended family. Ed is predeceased by his father Max Hoffman, his mother Pauline Hoffman, his step mother Bea Hoffman and his dear brother Bob Hoffman. Ed is survived by his wife of 56 years Marilyn, their children Keith, Cathy, Kim and Craig, his son-in-law Greg Mayback, his daughter-in-law Terri Hoffman and four beloved granddaughters, Rowan, Morgan, Olivia and Ava. The family especially wants to thank his recent care-givers as well as Hospice-by-the-Sea of Broward County/Trust Bridge, for their devoted care and professional assistance. His personal philosophy was: "Live, love, enjoy and think outside of the box. Do not wait until tomorrow, start today."
