My Friend and my “Brother” Ed
In 1963 I was introduced to Ed Gonzalez in a professional manner, and we immediately became friends, believing in and trusting each other, professionally and personally. I was designing an automobile dealership in Delray Beach for Miller Volkswagen and contacted my Mechanical/Electrical Engineering consultant Dan Van Blarcom, who became a life-long friend of Ed’s. When Dan came to my office, he brought with him another gentleman who would be working with him on the project.  That gentleman was Ed Gozalez who became my dear friend and my Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Consultant until he gave it up as his water purification system business that he created became internationally successful and demanding.
He was passionate about Cuba and looked forward to the day he could return.  Growing up with Fidel and Raul Castro in Santiago De Cuba, he became involved with the overthrow of Batista, and was to become a high ranking Engineering official in the government until he realized their connection with Russia and Communism. Upon this realization, he quickly and quietly left Cuba for the United States arriving in Miami on Thanksgiving Day, 1960, and became a strong American Citizen.  He was successful, eventually, in getting his family out  of Cuba and to the United States.  
Over the years I learned so much from him about engineering, life, and the evils of Communism.  Ed was the smartest man I ever met.  Our work together included residential, multi-family, churches, community centers, schools, office buildings, and shopping centers in our areas as well as other states.  No matter the type or design, Ed was prepared and to tackle the problem.   He displayed his genius many years ago in our design of Hagan Road School, a school for migrant children on a remote 40 acres of farmland that was not served by any utilities, requiring the creation of on-site water treatment and sewage system facilities.
