Dalyn Alfaro Bartie, a warm soul and enduring driving force, died on November 24, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was 40 years old. Her creativity and care will be expressed in the purest and most substantial form intermittently by the lives she touched. Her spirit will appear again, cultivating our hearts, our fiery passion, and our sense of discovery. Where we may appear lost or distracted, all light will converge as we remember her beauty and grace.
Born in Matanzas, Cuba, Dalyn was a woman of genius and an individual talent, often received with subtlety. She was clearly popular, well-liked, and made genuine friends. Dalyn could even make going to the dentist a pleasant experience when she greeted you at the front desk. As a loving wife, Dalyn was fiery and passionate. Her counsel to her friends and family was golden. She positioned those around her to take responsibility, to know merit, and to be the leaders they had been waiting for. As a mother, Dalyn was a hidden spring of rejuvenation. She was an enthusiastic accomplice in the conspiracy to place her courage, capacity to listen, and desire to learn within her most willing vessels, her children.
Dalyn loved to shop and had an affinity for home décor. Her concern for beautifying herself and her home was the work of reproducing joy and verve. For the vitality of home life was curated by the way she nurtured everyone as herself. Her attention to other’s beauty and health restored the flicker in their eyes.
Dayln had a powerful intellect and a cultural sensitivity. Her favorite television shows were Originals, about the supernatural politics of the French Quarter in New Orleans; Vampire Diaries, a supernatural drama about the challenges and need to never give up on love; and, Twilight, a series of books and television shows about vampires, love, family, faith, racism, and the feeling of being orphaned. It was not lost on Dalyn that the “supernatural” could not only be a secret language of awareness wielded by healers with uncommon wisdom, but also a heritage of both African Americans from Louisiana and Cubans that masks African heritage and cultural survivals.
Dalyn was the special type of personality whose love and dedication knew no bounds. Her passions overflowed. Even when she swung and missed at a target, it was with majestic style and a knowing smile. One could have a good time with this bold and beautiful woman!
Dalyn had more than one brilliant hour. She had many days of glory and fashioned many original victories. Her spirit and achievements will echo through the acts and legacies of her husband and children. She was a seer who did not demand that everyone make her insights the center of attention.
When we watched over her in the last days, we understood how to approximate selfless care, by mirroring her example. The many summits we will know, the many transformations of our emerging character, the pilgrimages we pursue in search of beauty and our struggles for happiness, will follow in her footsteps. Each moment we distinguish ourselves will mirror her nurturing, joy, and audacity that made us love her so much. Someday, not too far in the distant future, after the most difficult moments of mourning have passed, when her memory is preserved from loss and guarded from distortion, our hearts will again beat as one.
Dalyn is survived by her husband, Derek Bartie; four children Carlos Montalvo, Tristan Alfaro and Skylar and Everett Bartie; and her mother, Solangel Socorro. Relatives mourning in Cuba include her father, Jose Exposito and her siblings, Jose Gabriel Exposito, Carlos Alberto Exposito, and Dalia Exposito.
A visitation will be held Thursday, December 1, 2022, from 11:00am to 1:15pm at Caballero Rivero Little Havana, 3344 SW 8th Street, Miami Florida 33135.
She will be interned at Caballero Rivero Woodland Park West, 14001 Northwest 178th Street, Miami, Florida 33018.
