Cousin Carlos and I met as teenagers when I visited Puerto Rico but didn’t get to really know each other until he moved to Miami.  My last contact with him was March 3rd, during our usual  fun and playful exchange while playing “Words With Friends”.  My family and his family have a long  rich and beautiful history and I will deeply miss this connection. My sincere, most heartfelt condolences to Tia Octavia.

Dear Quinones Family:  Carlos was a member of our family for over 24 years.  Although he & Bob Brew separated, Carlos was always considered our brother-in-law.  He was a most handsome, talented, loving and giving individual.  His loss is unfathomable to us.  RIP dear Carlos.  We are forever grateful and enriched to have had you in our lives. Carlos Te estañare toda mi vida. Descansa en Paz hermano 😭😭😭😭

Before my first international trip to Spain, he gave me the best advice that I want to thank him for.  He told me to take lots of pictures but more than that, keep a journal because you will be able to go back anytime and read exactly what you were thinking, feeling, doing at that very moment which was so much more descriptive than just a picture.  He bought me a journal for that trip.  I still go back and read that journal that I kept those 10 magical days in Spain and look at my sketches of some of the pieces of art in the Modern Art Museum in Madrid.   I would have never written down all of that without his advice.   I want to thank him for driving up to Dallas to take care of me when I had my appendix removed and he stayed with me for a week.  I want to thank him for ending every phone call and every text with “LYM”.  “LYM” meant “Love You More”.  We would always argue who loved who more when we were under the influence or when we were just being silly.  Sometimes that argument would carry on forever.  Carlos, at times you were my husband because we argued and loved each other like an old married couple.  You were my mother that taught me manners and comforted me when I was hurting.  You were simply my best friend and the most important person in my life.  I hope you know how much you meant to me and to everyone that you encountered.  That’s why so many people are so sad and so hurt that you are gone.  I know it’s going to hurt a little less each day.  I hope it does.  I know that hopefully one day I will be able to step out on the dance floor and smile thinking of talking to you more than actually dancing or rolling my eyes at you when you kept talking and I just wanted to dance!!  We were in our own wiggle world!  I will miss that crazy, silly, wonderful world!!  Well, this time, Carlos, I get the last word…I will always Love You More!

Waking up this morning seemed like so many others until I got online. I was Shocked and Sadden to hear that last week, a long time friend, Dr. Carlos Alfredo Quinones, (62) passed away. Carlos was such a giving caring indivdual to everyone he met and knew. I met this legendary man back in my Ambush Days decades ago here in Austin before his move to Miami.

Over the years and especially last year, we reconnected again through Facebook. Back when COVID first hit all of us, Carlos was one of the first people who sent me money when I lost 1/2 of my income due to it all. Not just once, but twice and out of the blue. It shocked me on his kindness and I offered to pay him back one day and his answer to me was, "No need to pay me back! It’s my way of giving thanks to life which has treated me well..." - WOW!

This past July 2020, he had posted his Flag Picture I had taken of him back in the day with the following caption: "TBT, Happy Fourth, and Biggest Coming Out Gesture of my life, all rolled into one. For a good cause, 40 y/o Dr. Q dressed down to a flag for the cover of an Austin LGBT+ small newspaper. July 1998 (Eric A. Crabtree, you are responsible for this!! 🤣)"

My heart goes out to his family and all of his dear friends at the loss of such a funny, good looking and more importantly, a very loving caring individual I have known. God's Speed Carlos and until we meet again in Heaven, may you Rest In Peace Knowing What Good You Did here on Earth. - Love ❤️ and Miss You Buddy.
