Albert L. Rubin passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at the age of 91. He lived a long and fulfilling life. He was married to the love of his life, Jean M. Rubin, for over 56 years before she passed, and along with his fellow Boeing engineers built a machine to allow man to drive on the moon.
Al not only left his imprint on the moon, but also on his community, work and family. He was "that" Little League coach in Satellite Beach who was envied by all of his fellow coaches. Young men flocked to his team because he was a patient teacher that instilled a love of the game. To this day, those men still cherish those moments they played baseball for Coach Al Rubin.
He was "that" manager at Boeing, with accolades and awards that simply take up too much space to be adorned on any wall. Under his guidance a lunar rover was placed in a capsule, rocketed to the moon, and drove astronauts around the surface of the moon.
He was "that" father and grandfather. He was a role model, mentor and coach to three sons -- two lawyers and a doctor. Steering three stubborn sons into medical school and law school may be a more difficult task than putting a man on the moon. Al's humor, love of reading and music is a legacy that has passed down to his sons and grandchildren -- some of which may be more rhythmically and musically challenged than others.
The legacy of Al's imprint lives on in each of his sons and grandchildren. Al is survived by his three sons and their families: Eric and his wife Kimberly, daughter Sara and son Jacob; Steven, his wife Dora, and sons Sean and Garret; Michael, his wife Brenda, and sons Richard and Philip.
