Alba Souto Alvarez of Miami, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on June 16, 2023. She was born in Bayamo, Cuba, and raised in Santiago de Cuba, Oriente, Cuba, to the late Jose Maria Souto and Francisca Hernandez Castro.
Alba's passion for education led her to pursue her teaching degree at the University of New Mexico, which she obtained in 1960. She embarked on a remarkable career in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system. Alba began teaching at Kinloch Park Junior High before moving to Miami Sunset Senior High. After 37 years of service, Alba retired from her teaching career.
Beyond her professional achievements, Alba cherished her family above all else. She was married to her loving husband, Jorge M Alvarez, for 56 beautiful years. Their enduring partnership was a testament to their deep love and unwavering support for one another. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Alba will forever be remembered as a devoted and nurturing mother to her sons, Jorge M Alvarez and Jose M Alvarez. She took immense pride in their accomplishments and supported them wholeheartedly in their pursuits. Her sons were a source of great joy and fulfillment in her life, and her love for them knew no bounds.
In addition to her immediate family, Alba leaves behind a rich legacy through her six adoring grandchildren. Her love and wisdom will continue to guide them throughout their lives, as they carry her memory in their hearts.
The family will be receiving guests at Caballero Rivero Westchester, located at 8200 Bird Road, Miami, Florida, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. A solemn internment ceremony will immediately follow at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery, situated at 11411 NW 25th Street, Miami, Florida.
Alba Souto Alvarez will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness, grace, and unwavering dedication to her family and students will be cherished forever. As we bid her farewell, let us remember the invaluable contributions she made and strive to carry forward her legacy of love, compassion, and lifelong learning. May she rest in eternal peace.
