Virginia Mae Hampton passed away on March 28, 2023 at the age of 92. She was born on August 29, 1930 in Monrovia, CA to Fred and Mary Yenney. As a daughter, wife, mother, sister-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Virginia will be remembered as incredibly kind, devoted, faithful, and helpful.
After graduating from Fresno Technical High School in 1948, Virginia married William Hampton. They had three sons and one daughter. Virginia always prioritized her children’s interests and development, which included sports, church, music, and the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. The family spent time in San Jose and Ukiah before settling in Santa Rosa on Westbrook Drive, where she lived for 43 years. Virginia enjoyed spending time cultivating her garden and always had fresh cut flowers in a vase on the dining room table. She read the Bible daily, which gave her strength to live a life full of peace and love.
Outside of her home life, Virginia enjoyed spending time with the many friends she met through church, quilting and gardening clubs, and volunteer work. Always known for being caring and loving, she worked as a server at Oakmont Gardens and volunteered with Sutter Hospice for 20 years.
Virginia’s legacy will be carried on by her family, who plan to continue the traditions she treasured dearly. Every Christmas Eve, Virginia looked forward to going to church with family and afterwards having everyone over for a potluck meal of appetizers and desserts. Crescent roll lasagna, Cheerio bars, and tamale pie are just a few of her recipes the family continues to make today. Virginia’s family will forever remember Sunday dinners together, conversations full of laughter, and her love of See’s candy. Quite the athlete in her younger years, Virginia played softball and basketball, and enjoyed watching NBA games. She remained active throughout her life, meticulously caring for her roses and other plants.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, William Hampton; father, Fred Yenney; and mother, Mary Yenney.
She is survived by sons, Mark Hampton, Charles Hampton, and Ross Hampton; daughter, Lynnette Molin; son-in-law, Douglas Molin; daughters-in-law, Diana Hampton and Susan Hampton; granddaughters, Deidre Wilkerson, Lindsey Molin, Autumn Hampton, and Caroline Hampton; grandson, Ben Hampton; great-grandson Paul Wilkerson; and nieces, Brenda Corby and Denise Winston.
