The family of Thomas “Tom” Ballou Brooks, IV is deeply saddened to announce his passing at the age of 79, after a courageous battle with cancer. Tom passed on All Saints’ Day, November 1, 2024. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Katherine Pontiff and Thomas Brooks, III, he graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Tom is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Gloria Muñoz; his two daughters, Lisa and Shannon Brooks; his granddaughter, Sophia Sonnier; and stepchildren Marco, Michael (Dina), Teresa, and Ron (Susan) Carazo. He also leaves behind step-grandchildren Christian, Charles, and Caroline Carazo, his siblings Stephen and Olga Brooks, and many extended family members and friends.
Tom was immensely proud of his distinguished 23-year career with the U.S. Naval Construction Battalion, where he retired as a Seabee Chief and served honorably in Desert Storm during the Gulf War. A dedicated member of the Farhad Grotto and the Masonic community, he was the founding member of the John Wayne Lodge and reached the 32nd degree in Masonry.
Known for his devout Catholic faith, Tom was also an avid reader, historian, world traveler, and talented joke-teller. His passions included quality time with family, supporting the New Orleans Saints, his deep affection for animals and celebrating life’s precious moments. Tom’s warmth, generosity, and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral services at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. Visitation for immediate family will be from 8:30am to 9:00am, followed by public visitation from 9:00am to 11:00am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the funeral home chapel at 11:00am.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Slidell, LA on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 11:00am.
