Shirley Cross Prestenberg

Shirley Cross Prestenberg passed away on March 30, 2021 at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Louis William Prestenberg, Jr., and was the daughter of the late Adrian Lawrence Cross, Sr. and Emma McCawley Cross, she was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters: Adrian Lawrence Cross, Jr.; Archie Cross; Josephine Scoriels; Ida Cross; Rita Russell; Cecilia Crais; Genevieve Flashpoler; brother-in-law Milton Bailey; sister-in-law Margie Bailey, and dear friend Marian Pizzolato.

Shirley is survived by a host of nieces and nephews, her dear friend and later-years caregiver, Judi Peck; Godchild Erin Oest-Larsen with husband Carl and their two daughters Lene and Kate; and good friend Merlin Boyer. Shirley was employed by First National Bank of Commerce as a teller, and retired as a banking officer in 1991 after 43 years of service. Shirley was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Parish and a member of the St. Jude Society, serving four terms as President. She was an avid Saints fan and ticket holder for fifty years. She was known for her cooking, her many travels with Louis, and in her later years, casino bus trips and weekly card games at her home with friends.

We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Notre Dame Home Health, Nurses Registry’s devoted sitters, Hospice Compassus Nursing Care, Dr. Tilton, Dr. Mohiuddin, and Dr. Kilbert, for the wonderful care during her years of need.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Mass at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Metairie, on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 11:30AM, preceded by visitation at 10AM. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans. Everyone in attendance is required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing.
