Samuel “Sam” Anthony Corte, age 72, died peacefully on December 16, 2013 surrounded by his loved ones. Sam was born in New Orleans on January 31, 1941. He graduated from De La Salle High School and retired as an advertising executive from the Times Picayune. He also served in the United States Air Force Reserve.
He was the devoted son of Marion Hughes Corte and stepson of Maria Corte. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Joseph Corte, and his sister, Betty Jane Corte. He is the brother of Joseph E. Corte and Carole L. Corte, Diane Corte Ligi and Anthony Ligi, Sandra Corte Thornhill and Rodney Thornhill and half-brother to Brian Corte and Krissy Wells. He is survived by his beloved pet “Reese” and a dedicated patron of Lakeview Brew Coffee House. He is also survived by 16 nieces and nephews and 17 great-nieces and nephews.
Sam viewed life as a palette of colors and expressed it in his creativity of art and design. He loved a good cup of coffee for it brought people together and great conversation. He will be missed by many. Sincere gratitude to nurses, physicians and staff of Tulane Medical Center for their care of Sam.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA. Visitation is from 10 AM until 12 Noon followed by a Catholic Mass at 12 Noon which will be officiated by Sam’s cousin the Reverend Carroll J. Heffner. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Louisiana Humane Society, P.O.
