Sam A. Marks, age 95, died at his New Orleans residence on Tuesday, August 7, 2012. Beloved husband of Gulnare L. Marks and by first marriage to the late Mathilde Weill Marks. Father of Meryl Rosenbloom and the late Allen Marks. Step-father of David Bernstein and the late Roger Bernstein. Son of the late Sam Marks and Hazel Forchheimer Marks. Also survived by three grandchildren, Leslie Perrilliat, Lori Eberts and Max Marks; and three great grandchildren, Amanda and Courtney Eberts and Will Perrilliat. Step-grandfather of Sloane, Hadley, Mitchell and Rachel Bernstein.
Mr. Marks was a New Orleans resident since 1939, attended LSU and was the oldest living alum of Riverside Military Academy. He was a Chief Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army in World War II and served in the Pacific. He was the retired founder and owner of Marks Paper Company and served on the boards of many trade associations in the paper industry. He was a past board member of Temple Sinai and was a volunteer at the World War II Museum.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012 at 12:00 Noon from the Feibelman Chapel at Temple Sinai, 6227 St. Charles Ave, with visitation beginning at 11:00 AM. Rabbi Edward Paul Cohn will officiate. Private family interment in Hebrew Rest Mausoleum. Kindly omit flowers. Donations to Temple Sinai or Marks Park at the Jewish Community Center are suggested.
