Loving father of Angela Maranto, the late Anthony Maranto and step-father of Pam Bernard (Jay), Wallace Butler (Vicki), Beth Waterman (Donald,Jr) and Amy Butler. Grandfather of 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Son of the late Rose Schiro Maranto Pons and Harold Maranto, Sr. Brother of Janet Chiasson, Martha Maranto and the late Harold Maranto, Jr. Age 78, a native and lifelong resident of New Orleans, LA.
Ronald joined the Merchant Marines at a young age. He served 2 years in the Navy during the Korean Conflict.
His first love was woodworking. There was nothing he couldn’t build, fix or do with wood. He was an avid baker, well known for his Italian cookies and home-made breads. He help to restore the LCVP on display in the National WWII Museum where he was a regular volunteer. He was instrumental and was part of the original crew to secure, enable and return from Greece to the US the LST 325 now located in Evansville, IN. Ronald was a local extra in movies, and traveled to Iceland to work in the movie “Flags of Our Fathers”.
He will be missed by his family of which he was the center.
The relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 11:00 am at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time. Interment will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his honor to the WWII Museum in New Orleans or to the US LST 325 Ship Memorial Inc, 840 LSR Dr., Evansville, TN 47713.
