Richard Smallwood entered into eternal rest unexpectedly the morning of February 26, 2011, age 60. He was preceded in death by his father Vernon Smallwood, mother Blanche Smallwood, brother Robert Smallwood and his brother-in-law David Pennington. Survived by his loving and devoted sister, Dorothy Pennington, his cherished niece Victoria Elizabeth Pennington and one brother Roy Smallwood, several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
Born and raised in Trenton, N.J., a native of New Orleans for over 35 years. Richard worked at Cafe Du Monde for over 30 yrs. He loved his job, bosses and co-workers and was also highly respected by them as well. Richard enjoyed his life to the fullest and loved to travel. He was an avid fan of the Phillies and Eagle’s and enjoyed all other sports. In 1999 he won the Hooters National Sports Trivia Contest awarding him a trip to Hawaii along with the Hooters staff to attend the Hooters Hula Bowl. He was also honored as a Hooters National Swim-Suit Judge in Hawaii. (He really enjoyed that!) What Richard loved most was spending time with his sister, Dorothy and niece Victoria (who was his heart), enjoying home cooked meals, holidays or just hanging out with them. He was a wonderful brother and devoted uncle whom they considered one of their greatest blessings in life. Richard was such a good person, a kind, generous, big hearted, hard working honest soul who was always there for you. A good friend indeed. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him well. Friends and family, also his extended family at Cafe Du Monde, please come join us for a Memorial Service celebrating his life on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd., at 43rd St., 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
