Melvin Merrill Munch Sr., retired owner of Chas. J. Munch & Sons, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 19, 2024, at the age of 97, surrounded by his family. Mr. Munch is survived by his children Melva M. Graham (Larry), Melvin M. Munch Jr., and Meladie M. Munch, four grandchildren Stephanie Munch, Jared Graham (Alexis), Lisa Adkins (Roy) and Kimberly Spahn (Dan), 5 great-grandchildren Jordyn and Riley Graham, Shelby and Cole Spahn and Rhea Adkins and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife of 72 years Melanie Nolan Munch, his parents Charles and Frances Munch, his siblings Charles Jr., George, Alvin Sr., Amelia, and Dorothy Munch, Theodora (Dola) Oliver and Mae Gabler and his daughter-in-law Elaine Munch.
Melvin, a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran, who participated in the invasion at Okinawa, was a Past Master of Theodore Roosevelt Masonic Lodge #415 F&AM, a member of Linn Wood-Ionic Masonic Lodge #167 F&AM, Past Monarch of Farhad Grotto, Past President Farhad Grotto Klown Unit, Past Patron of Metairie Ridge Chapter #169 O.E.S, a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #60, and the Chaplain for the Good Old Metairie Boys.
A Visitation for Melvin will be held Saturday, February 24, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, Metairie, Louisiana, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM in the Leitz-Eagan Chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 at 1427 Washington Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana.
