Maxine Neumann Melancon, a long-time resident of Avondale, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on September 13th, 2022. She was born on May 11, 1941, to the late Mildred Hoolahan Neumann and Louis Maximilian Neumann in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the devoted wife of Walter “Buddy” Melancon who preceded her in death.
Maxine is survived by her loving sister Lorelei, and preceded in death by her siblings Lois, Mickey, Butch, Wayne, and Kenny.
Maxine was a loving and generous mother and grandmother with a life-long dedication to her family. She is survived by her children Rickey Melancon (Shannon), Gwen Buras (Jay), and Jeffrey Melancon (Suzy), as well as her many grandchildren Sheree Ruiz, Jessica Orgeron, Jamie Melancon, Jessica Phillips, Alyssa Phillips, Jay Buras, Amy Tredanari, Jessica Buras, Evan Melancon, and Bailey Melancon. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a loyal employee of Metropolitan Gastroenterology for over 30 years and was beloved by her colleagues.
Maxine found so much joy and happiness in spending time with her family and friends, watching a good movie, and enjoying a hot cup of coffee, but most of all she loved her sweets and desserts.
Maxine’s family would like to give a special thanks to the caring staff at St. Michael’s who loved her like family.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 17th, 2022, from 8:00am-10:00am followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00am at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Metairie, LA 70006. Maxine will be laid to rest at the Garden of Memories, 4900 Airline Dr., Metairie, LA 70001.
