Mary Virgil Ryan

Mary Virgil Ward Ryan, age 99, passed away August 9th, 2018. Born in Bayou Goula, LA on November 30th, 1918, a former resident of New Orleans, LA and has resided in Metairie for the past 40 years. Beloved wife of the late John Edward Ryan. Daughter of the late Marie Ada Sentilles Ward and the late John Warren Ward, Sr. Mother of Marilyn R. Rutecki, Shirley M. Ryan, and Susan R. Shambra (Nicholas); grandmother of Kenneth J. Rutecki (Melanie); great-grandmother of Andrew J. and Molly E. Rutecki. She is also survived by her sister, Irma W. Hecker and a host of nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Louis Eldridge, John Warren Jr., James Glenn, Joseph Wellington, and James Lawrence Ward, and her sisters Mercedes W. Austin and Audrey W. Vairin.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, gardening, and sewing.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Metairie, LA, on Wednesday, August 15th. Visitation will begin at 9AM, with a mass at 11AM. Interment will follow at Carrollton Cemetery (St. Mary’s Cemetery) in New Orleans, LA.
