Marvin Leonard

Marvin Leslie Leonard was born on September 24, 1924 in New Orleans and peacefully passed away on July 10, 2013. He was the son of the late Roy L. Leonard and Althea Bethancourt Leonard, and brother of the late Allan J. Leonard. Mr. Leonard was the beloved husband of the late Lonella Briant Leonard by first marriage and is survived by his Devoted wife, Selma "Penny" Hendryx Leonard. He was the loving father of Roy B. Leonard (wife Denise) and Jeannie L. Maloney (husband Sean), proud grandfather of Jason Leonard, Melissa L. Knott, Matthew Wheelahan, Kelly W. Herrmann, Taylor Leonard and great-grandfather of Logann and Lakenn Leonard, and Amelia, Aubrey and Malory Knott. Upon graduating from Fortier High School, he entered the Army Air Corps during World War II, where he attained rank of 2nd Lieutenant as a fighter pilot instructor. Mr. Leonard was the first Public Information officer for the New Orleans Police Department. After 21 years of dedicated service, he retired from the NOPD with the rank of Captain. As part of his Public Relations duties, he escorted numerous U.S. presidents, dignitaries and movie stars through New Orleans during their stays. In addition, Mr. Leonard was the past President and Chaplain of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), a faithful member of the Perfect Union Lodge #1 F&AM Masonic Organization, and served on the Board of Directors for, and a lifelong member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in New Orleans. The family would like to express a heartfelt "Thank You" to the staff of Canon Hospice and the Covenant Home, for the love, care and support they provided to Mr. Leonard and his family. Service will be held at Leitz Eagan Funeral Home 4747 Veterans Blvd. Metairie, Louisiana on Saturday July 13, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.
