Martha Hernandez Stevens pass away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on May 13, 2023, at the age of 81. She was born on May 21, 1941 in Boca Del Rio, Veracruz, Mexico and was a longtime resident of the Bywater in New Orleans, Louisiana.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Stevens and her parents, Isabella Souza and Dandilao Rodriguez.
Martha is survived by her five children, Maria Howell, Herman Howell, Geraldo Howell, Frank Howell, and Patricia Howell Covenas and her grandchildren, Robert Sherlock, Mary Howell, Christina Covenas, Tyler Howell, and Chloe Covenas. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Jessica Vega, Jazmine Vega, Jay Olguin Vega, and Lynda Shader, three great-great-grandchildren, Tyler “Bugg” Howell Jr., Emma Vega Rodriguez, and Kai Covenas Jermany, and her lifelong partner, Benito Mena.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Metairie, LA. Visitation will be held from 9AM-11AM with a memorial Mass to begin at 11AM.
