RILEY
Marion W. Riley, born September 11, 1926 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late William and Edna Willig, departed this life on Monday, October 7, 2013 at Touro Infirmary surrounded by her daughters who had lovingly cared for her in her later years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward J. Riley, brother Harry Willig and sister Alice W. Eckerman. She is survived by her daughters Patricia Ginn and husband Ryan and Susan Usner and fiancee Matthew Kay. Known lovingly as “Gee” to her grandchildren Robby Fanguy (Kerryn), Rebecca Steckler (Ryan) and Jay Usner (Kara). Also survived by her sisters in-law Catherine Bode and Fay Smythe and loving nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Sophie B. Wright High School in New Orleans. In her early years she was a resident of the Lower Garden District where she met and married her husband. She worked for South Central Bell as a comptometer operator. She later moved to Jefferson, Louisiana in 1954 and became a life-long parishioner of St. Agnes Parish, where she was involved in the Altar Society, School House Squares, and The Knights of Columbus Marian Auxiliary. She spent many years volunteering at St. Agnes School. In her later years she was very involved with the Jefferson Parish Golden Agers and the Pink House. She spent many years enjoying casino trips to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
She gave willingly of herself and lovingly cared for her parents and her mother-in-law in their later years. She happily welcomed the opportunity to spend time with her beloved grandchildren. Possessed of a loving and generous heart she graciously welcomed guests into her home for all gatherings large and small. She has been God’s blessing to all who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass from the Metairie home of THARP-SONTHEIMER-THARP, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd. at 43rd Street on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 12:30 P.M. with visitation beginning at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
