Marie J. Basile

Marie Basile, age 87, of Metairie, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Anthony J. Basile and Mary Albers Basile. She is preceded in death by her brothers; Tom Collins, Anthony J. Basile, Jr., Frank Basile, and Paul Basile, sisters; Elaine B. Cannatella and Lucille B. Hamm. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marie received her LPN license in Opelousas, Louisiana, and moved to New Orleans after the death to live with her sister Elaine and family. She worked at Hotel Dieu Hospital where she met Dr. Anthony Failla and would later work for him, Dr. Robert Glenn and Dr. Keith Cangelosi for 56 years and loved all of it. During that time Marie met many wonderful friends. She became very close with the Gaglianos, which was like a second family to her. Marie had many friends, too many to mention but she loved to help them all when she could.

Marie enjoyed helping people in causes. She worked for Our Lady of Guadalupe whenever they had a charity event along with Fr. Bill Zapalac. She also helped St. Louis Cathedral when they had St. Joseph Alter. She was very good at getting donations for the alter with her friends Harry Bale and Don Downs.

The family would like to thank the staff at Marrero Nursing Home for the loving care given to her for their loving care there until her passing.

A Visitation for Marie will be held on October 14th, 2021 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will take place at Cypress Grove Cemetery, 120 City Park Ave, New Orleans, Louisiana.
