Lucille Donna Shank Gerberich,"Nana", of Metairie, LA, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, October 7, 2012. She was born in Ruth, Nevada to Clyde and Lillian Shank. She graduated from Helena High School in Montana and studied art at Hawthorne School of Art in Provincetown, Montana. She was married to Mr. Wayne G. Gerberich, Sr., on May 9th 1952 in Harrisburg, PA. She was a homemaker and mother who was an art lover and enjoyed abstract and fresco painting, playing the piano, listening to jazz and classical music, opera, going to the fairgrounds to watch the horse races, being a political activist and avidly reading. She was a member of the New Orleans Jazz Club and the National Museum of Women in the Arts. She was a great story-teller and enjoyed helping others. She was a high-spirited and vigorous "lady", a wonderful mother and friend who will truly be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; a daughter, Carolyn Nicholas; her sister, Betty Shank Davis of Bigfork, MT and two brothers, Richard Shank of Carlsbad, New Mexico and Michael Shank of Metairie, LA. Survivors include a son, Mr. Wayne G. Gerberich, Jr.; five daughters, Ms. Kathy Wheeler, Ms. Wendy Gerberich, Ms. Betty White, Ms. Deanna Fortier and Mrs. Kristen Cannon (Edward Cannon, III); 11 grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 11:00 am at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Hwy. in Metairie, LA. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
