On Saturday, October 7, 2023, Lucille Dykes went home to be with our Lord, at the age of 92. She is a native of Clara, Mississippi and has been a resident of Luling, LA for the past 55 years. Formerly married to the late Joe Dykes for over 50 years. Devoted mother to Deborah Dykes Badeaux and Donald Joe Dykes. Mother-in-law of Chris Badeaux. Beloved grandmother of Christopher J. Badeaux, Amber Badeaux Stone (Matthew) and Brandon M. Badeaux. Proud great-grandmother of Collin and Jordyn Badeaux, Wolfe and Scarlett Stone. Daughter of the late George W. Cooley and Ruthie Hinton Cooley. Sister of Gladys Cooley Hinton and Robert (Robbie Dale) Cooley. Sister of the late Gaston Cooley, Grady Cooley, Geneva C. Langhauser, Buford Cooley, Zettie Vee C. Brewer, George W. Cooley, Jr., Betty Lee C. Brewer, Euber Cooley, Mattie Ruth Cooley, Paul E. Cooley and Bonnie Pearl C. Smith.
She enjoyed vacationing with family, eating out, cooking for her loved ones, rummaging through thrift shops, garage sales and antique stores for a bargain, treasured spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she was very proud of, fishing with a cane pole, spending all day at the mall and relaxing outside listening to the sounds of nature.
She was an avid gardener with a GREEN thumb and especially loved the fragrant-blooming flowers and colorful plants that God blessed us with. She could nurture any plant back to life and make it thrive. She loved to fish and crab and would bait her own hook! She liked to decorate and adored beautiful pictures, ceramics and artificial flower arrangements. She had a salt-and-pepper shaker collection of over 200 sets.
She was a very sweet person with a feisty side. She would help anyone and was so empathetic towards others. She would cheer us all up with her teasing and wonderful sense of humor. She could make you laugh! Her beautiful smile brightened our days.
She loved neatness in her home and yard.
She was ready to jump in and help anytime. She wanted everyone to get along and ALWAYS taught us all to love our God and trust in HIS plan for us. (Pray about everything and NEVER GIVE UP!)
She was raised in a small rural town in Mississippi. Her mother was a Christian and was a huge influence in her life. She sang hymns often as she went about her daily chores and Lucille often did the same thing. She would lie in bed last year, when her memory was failing her, and sing the old hymns of her childhood. When she could not remember all the words, she would try another song. About three weeks ago she just burst into song, singing “This little light of mine…I’m gonna let it shine.” Now…her light is shining in Heaven, worshipping her Lord.
