Louis J. DiBenedetto passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family at 7:00 am on Sunday, August 27, 2023. He was 76 years of age. He leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend of 56 years, Nancy Gerdes DiBenedetto. He was the son of the late Jimmy and Angie DiBenedetto. He was the brother of Angelo DiBenedetto (Bridgette) and the brother-in-law of Pauline LeBlanc (Jimmy Sr., deceased), Eugene Gerdes Jr. (Linda) and the late Dolores Vaurigaud (Chris). He was the son-in-law of the late Eugene Gerdes, Sr. and Hazel Gerdes. He is survived by many, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews who loved and adored him beyond measure. Louis was born in Independence, Louisiana on February 16, 1947. He was a lifelong resident of Metairie, Louisiana. He served in The United States Army and was involved in ground operations during the Vietnam War. During this time, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Medal. He was a proud Veteran. After his time in the service, he went on to work for Shell Oil Company where he remained until he retired. Louis had many hobbies that he and Nancy shared. He had an extensive collection of CB radios where his handle was the Two-Bit Dago and he even created Nancy one which was Mother Nature. They spoke with people around the world. Back then, that was something rare for the average person, but leave it up to Louis to find a way and achieve it. He had a wild and intriguing curiosity of any and everything. He was a sportsman through and through when it came to playing football, baseball and basketball. He had a love for adventure. He loved the outdoors, spending time hunting, fishing, and hiking in nature anywhere his hiking stick lead him and enjoyed bicycling, ending up wherever his peddles pushed. He even had a daring side which was riding dirt bikes. Louis and Nancy enjoyed spending time with family and friends. They had a special group of friends known as The Old Metairie Gang. Some of these friends he had known since childhood and schooldays. Louis has left his wife, Nancy, as well as his family and friends with so many precious memories which will always fill our hearts with laughter. He loved deeply and was loved even more in return. His loss leaves an enormous heartache for those left behind which speaks of the love that was shared. He took a part of each of our hearts with him. It gives us comfort and peace to know that he is no longer suffering and is with those who went before him. He is loved and will be missed beyond what words could ever describe. Until we meet again, The Two-Bit Dago 10-4.
