Lillie “Maude” Benton Moore, age 72, entered into eternal rest peacefully at her daughter’s home with her loving children by her side on Tuesday, August 14, 2018. She have completed her earthly journey and gone on to join our heavenly father and her love ones. She was born Thursday, June 13, 1946 to her beloved mother, Mary Sanders and Percy Benton, Sr. She was a native of Lakeland, LA and a lifelong resident of New Orleans, LA. She graduated from Rosenwald High School in New Roads, LA (class of 1966). After she relocated to New Orleans, she married her high school sweetheart, Haywood Moore and employed with Deansgate Industrial Sewing Factory, C Bel Awnings, Inc. and Broadway bound costume, Inc. where she designed many Mardi Gras costumes for The Krewe of Orpheus and other carnival krewes until her health failed. Lillie loved cooking, traveling, company and hanging with her family. She was baptized at an early age at St. Alma B C in Lakeland, LA and after relocating to New Orleans she join Guiding Light B C under Rev. G R Washington and later followed her sister to Franklin Avenue B C under the leadership of Rev. Fred Luter, Jr. She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Sanders and father, Percy Benton Sr.; her husband Haywood Moore; two sisters, Mildred and Hattie Mae Montgomery, a niece, Mattie Ruth Woods, a nephew, Thomas Calhoun; one brother, Percy Benton Sr.; a host of other uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews. She leaves to cherish fond memories; her two children, Jizelle N. Moore-Williams (Kevin) and Natasha L. Moore, three grandchildren, Janez Ruffin, Jataun Ruffin and Nicholas Moore; three great grandchildren, Samuel Armand, Damon Bryant and Kyrie Facian; seven sisters, Minister Ernestine “Tina” Nelson, Patricia Brown-Thomas (Henry III), Artimese Benton-Washington (late Clarence), Velma Benton-Williams, Rachel Benton, Emma Lee Benton and Cheryl Lynn Benton; six brothers, Vernon Benton (Joyce), Frank Ranson, Edward Benton (Mary), Eli Benton, Robert Benton and Tommy Benton; her dearest and devoted best sister friend, Lula Butler, eight nieces; Rosemary Smith (late Charles), Christine Sims (Brian), Jeanette Montgomery, Vernita Benton, Ebony Benton, Sonja Ranson, Rochelle Nelson-Whitfield (Stacy) and Mary Nelson-Patterson, four nephews; James C. Brown, Jr., Lloyd G. Nelson (Penny), Kelvin Ranson (Tanja), and Gerald Montgomery. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Relatives and Friends of the family, Franklin Avenue B C, Interdenominational Faith Assembly, Sweet Home B C, New Orleans Original Daiquiris, Walmart, Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery, and Delgado Community College are invited to attend the Funeral Services on Friday, August 24, 2018 in the Chapel at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, NOLA 70124. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, Baptist Service at 3:00 pm, Pastor Sam Young Jr., Officiating. A repast will follow funeral services.
