He is preceded in death by his son Geoffrey Jones and his parents, Darrell and Mildred Jones.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Koch Jones, children, Jennifer Jones Walls and Brian Jones, step-children, Duane Koch Jr. and Joy Koch (Coral Trahan), and grandchildren, Nicholas Fitzgerald and Kasyn Jones, all of whom brought him great joy.
Larry was a proud veteran who loved his country and served in the US Army for four years. He was a proud graduate of the University of Texas, where he received his BS in Education and the University of Houston, where he received his Master of Education. He worked as both a teacher and administrator and published a reading program to guide parents to teach reading at home. He later became an Educational Diagnostician with Jefferson Parish Schools until his retirement. Larry loved all things University of Texas Longhorns. He enjoyed good Texas barbeque, cooking, and developed an interest in photography. He dearly loved his wife, family, and grandkids and always looked forward to spending time with them.
Larry was a servant of God and a giving man who lived his life as a faithful Christian. He was a devoted member of St. Basil Antiochian Orthodox Church and enjoyed being very active and helpful in the parish. He was a member of the parish council and served as Parish Council Chairman. He also managed the bookstore, printed bulletins, and assisted the parish in hosting a diocesan conference many years ago. He will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023 at St. Basil Antiochian Orthodox Church, 3916 Hudson St, Metairie, LA. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM – 11 AM with a service to begin at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larry’s name to either St. Basil Orthodox Church or the Wounded Warrior Project.
