After graduating from Jesuit High School, Ken attended Louisiana State University in New Orleans where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity, before moving on to become a member and graduate of the inaugural class of 1972 at LSU School of Dentistry.
Ken then served in the Navy as Lieutenant for two years on Paris Island before returning home to start what would become a thirty-year private dental practice located primarily in the Lakeview area of New Orleans.
Ken was extremely devoted to the dental profession, and he served as a member of various boards and committees. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Dental Association (LDA) and the New Orleans Dental Association (NODA), and he served as NODA President in 1998. He was dedicated to the betterment of the dental profession through his involvement on American Dental Association committees that organized annual continuing education sessions. He was also instrumental in the success of the New Orleans Dental Conference. He received NODA’s Honor Dentist award in 2005 and LDA’s Distinguished Service Award in 2007. Each award is the highest honor bestowed by its organization, and they are presented annually to individuals who have exemplified the highest standards of professional conduct in dentistry and have made extraordinary contributions in organized dentistry and their community. Ken was also a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the International College of Dentists. He also donated his time and professional talents to the St. Bernard Community Health Center where he provided dental services to countless children.
Ken was a member of the Marquette Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church in Metairie. He was a volunteer coach and league commissioner with the Jefferson Parish Recreation Department baseball program.
Ken is survived by his of wife of 53 years, Almeda “Mitzi” Britsch Schott, their son, Garrick Jeffery Schott, his daughter-in-law, Candice Walker Schott, and his two grandchildren, Alexis and Walker Schott. He is also survived by his six siblings: Lynn Schott Donelon (Clement), Jack Schott, Michael Schott (Kathleen), Robert Schott (Karen), Mark Schott, D.D.S. (Susan), and Paul Schott (Stacey) and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Nellie and George Schott.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, July 14, 2023 at St. Ann Church & Shrine, 4940 Meadowdale St. Metairie, LA. Visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. with a funeral Mass to begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be private.
