Josephine 'Jo' Rivera Hargrave

Josephine “Jo” Rivera Hargrave, 68, of LaPlace, Louisiana died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family and loved ones on Monday, July 27, 2015. Jo was born on October 30, 1946 in Infanta, Quezon, Philippines. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Clemente Rivera and Mrs. Stella Rivera. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, David Gibson Hargrave; one daughter, Jessica Espiritu, her husband Rex Espiritu; and her two sons Max Sanchez and Christopher Sanchez and his wife Jennifer Meyer Sanchez; four grandsons Gabriel Nico Espiritu, Peter Joshua Espiritu, Micah Sanchez, and Kai Sanchez; and one granddaughter Lena Sanchez. From grade school to high school, Jo went to Saint Paul in Manila, Philippines, attended the University of Santo Tomas/ The Philippine Women’s University and earned a degree of Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition, then further achieved her Master’s degree at Tulane University. After 18 years as a Registered Dietitian with Lakeside Hospital, Jo retired to help in raising her first grandsons, Gabriel and Peter, then eventually became a Realtor for Gardner Realtor in LaPlace, Louisiana. Jo had a zest for living, was the life of the party, and loved cooking holiday dinners. She was an avid bowler, developed a green thumb in gardening, and a devout parishioner of Saint Joan of Arc in LaPlace, Louisiana. Her true joy in life was being with her family and friends. She will be missed by all that knew her. Memorial services will be held at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home in Metairie, La. on Friday July 31st from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM and at 9:00 AM till 10:00 AM the following day.
