John W. Nicosia, Jr.

John W. Nicosia, Jr., age 59, of Metairie, Louisiana, peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022. He is predeceased by his mother, Josephine Casacchia Nicosia. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Marian Sander Nicosia, his two beautiful daughters, Teressa Elise and Catherine Rose Nicosia, his father, John W. Nicosia, Sr., and his brother, David Nicosia (Laura), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

After a hard-fought nine-month battle with brain cancer, the Lord called John home to rest peacefully in His loving arms. In life, John’s devotion to his family was matched by his total dedication to his job as a speech therapist and augmentative coordinator. John’s first goal was always to take care of his family and provide the best future for his daughters, whom he loved more than life. He was tireless in his determination to accomplish this goal. During a 28-year career at Children’s Hospital, John improved the lives of thousands of children with speech impairments and/or communication issues, many of them with autism spectrum disorder. His work gave his life meaning, and he worked ceaselessly to achieve the best result for each of his patients, often bringing about results that were not believed to be possible as therapy began. Each challenge served to make him more determined to beat the odds and bring about a positive result for his “kids.” In death, John leaves behind innumerable family members and friends who, while devastated by the loss of his presence in their lives, are eternally grateful to have had him in their lives. His unselfishness and willingness to help anyone in need in any way he could outweighed his personal desires and defined his approach to life and friendship. He was a devoted son, husband, dad, brother, uncle, cousin, coworker, and friend for life, and he will be greatly missed.

A Visitation for John will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Benilde Catholic Church, 1901 Division St., Metairie, Louisiana, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 12:00 PM. Interment will immediately follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 5190 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any charitable donation be made in John's memory to the Autism Society.
