John M. Sibley, Jr. “Jack”, aged 93 of Metairie, LA, passed away May 8, 2016 in Kenner, LA. He was born in New Orleans May 10, 1923. He was the third child of six born to John M. Sibley, Sr., and Esther Wagner Sibley. He attended St. Anthony grade school and St. Aloysius High School where he played trumpet in the band. After graduating from St. Aloysius in 1940 he began a lifetime career in the finance and banking business. This was temporarily interrupted by World War II when he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country at home and abroad. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946. He resumed his civilian career and rose through the ranks of banking as an officer in several institutions at different locations, including Miami, FL, South Bend, IN, and Chicago, IL. Jack culminated his career as a Senior Vice President of the National American Bank then as President of the First Progressive Bank, both in New Orleans. Jack is survived by his former wife, Louise Buysse Sibley of Indiana and is predeceased by his son John David Sibley of New Orleans. He had five siblings, Carol Mae Rittiner (Louis Murphy and Lloyd Rittiner Sr., all deceased) of New Orleans, Lucille Marie Sibley of New Orleans, Esther Sue Elliott (Luke S. Elliott Sr., both deceased), formerly of Baton Rouge, Betty Ann Horky (Robert L.) of North Carolina, David Emile Sibley (Diane) of Kenner. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was an avid golfer, a former member of the Chateau Estates Country Club and member of the Green Crest Golf Club at City Park. He was a former parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church where he served as an usher. At the time of his death, he was a resident of the Chateau Living Center and belonged to the parish of Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Kenner. Jack was a beloved member of his family and will be missed and cherished by all who knew him. All are welcome to attend his memorial service and celebration of life starting with a visitation from 9 am to 11:15 am, Saturday, May 14, at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie, LA 70006, followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:15 am in the Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home chapel.
