John J.W. Brink, known as “Red”, died at East Jefferson hospital on February 9, 2012 at the age of 93. He was the beloved husband of the late Rosemary Thompson Brink and loving father of John J.W. Brink, Jr.( wife,Sally), Edna Catherine Vest ( husband, Art), Rosemary Schellhaas (companion, Buzzy) and Mary Anne Brink (companion, the Iate Joseph Aguilar). Brother of George Brink, the late Anna Brink Smith and Frederick William Brink. Proud grandfather of Jason Aguilar, Joseph Cantore, John Cantore, Jeremy Cantore, Jennifer Cantore Bowers, Jerrold Cantore, James Cantore, Jeannette Hutchison, and Alycia Dees. Nieces and nephews are Catherine Smith Cook, Edward Smith, Neil Smith and the late Frederick Smith. Also survived by numerous great grandchildren, grand nieces and nephews.
John was born in New Orleans on January 7, 1919. Son of Frederick W. Brink and Catherine B. Herbert. In his youth, he was a Golden Gloves boxer and attended Mater Dolorosa in New Orleans. He married Rosemary Thompson, daughter of Edward J. Thompson and Edna Berthelot on March 15, 1942. He proudly served his country during World War II with the Army Corps of Engineers in Iran and Turkey until being honorably discharged in November 1945 and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired from Sealtest division of Kraft Foods after over 35 years of service.
He was a parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic church in Jefferson, Louisiana and regularly attended Mass there.
Our dear Dad was always a source of happiness and friendly to everyone he met. He was there for all of us who loved him and will be deeply missed. A private Funeral Service will be held at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
