Joann Walker, 68, a long-time resident of the New Orleans area, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 26,2023 at her home. She was born May 4, 1955, to parents George and Willie Walker in Algiers, Louisiana. Joann was a free spirit who enjoyed live music, dancing, and sailing. She loved the beach and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and friends. Joann was a life-long lover of animals, books, and writing. By trade, Joann was an artist and real estate agent. Joann was strong willed and stubborn at times, but she also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. She was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all her life experiences.
Joann is survived by her three children: two sons Christopher (Ashley) Glenn Mathers of Savannah, Georgia and Gabriel (Karoline) Dominic DiPerna of Laplace, Louisiana, as well as her daughter Anna Maria DiPerna of Gretna, Louisiana; three grandchildren: Christopher Glenn Mathers II, Eleanor Lorraine DiPerna, and Dominic Paul DiPerna; sister Linda (John) Turner, and nephew Kaevan (Reagan) Turner; two great-nephews: George and Lewis Turner; and one great-niece, Charlotte Turner. Joann also leaves behind many loving friends and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Louisiana SPCA.
A private service for close family will be held October 6, 2023. A memorial service will be held for friends and extended family in the spring.
